Comment on The NYC Apartment Rental System is Infuriating by Marisa

Sheara- Excellent expose. This is exactly the case. Only 2 years have gone by since you found our 3 bedroom in NoLiTa on the no fee section of Craigs List. Overall, pretty crappy buildling but a wonderful first apartment and the location is something I will never forget in my LIFETIME!

Now the search begins again and its frustrating. Even with bigger budgets, more real-estate saavy and an in depth familiarity with NYC neighborhoods, the search is becoming increasingly stressful. Even when I do manage to contact management companies directly, they always refer me to a broker who they are dealing with. Why won't offices just show tenants the units directly?

Your sentiments about uneducated brokers are right on! How can somebody try to sell you on an apartment they haven't even seen! Take it from me, I know exactly what I am looking for and don't need to pay a broker to find it for me...only I may have to, because it seems this system is becomingly increasingly bureaucratic! everyone wants a piece of the NYC real estate pie but majority of the people out there are uneducated scum brokers! Bring back the days of $300/month Soho Lofts !!!!!!!!!!

The thing that made Starbucks evil was that, in a good economy where there was room for a coffee place on every corner, they monopolized all of those corners and chased out the competition. But agreed that in a market where a closing Starbucks will be replaced by nothing, and not another coffee place, there's nothing good about that.

Shear! I like your blog, looks great with info on two of my fav things(seo & nyc). Question: Why so many no follow tags? And what did Jill do to get an exception?
